Kaw Mission State Historic Site
The Kaw Mission site is a little historical stop along the Santa Fe Trail in Council Grove Texas. It has been undergoing significant renovations for the last few years preventing entry to the main house. This was a the site of a where local Native American were supported and encouraged to connect with the pioneers of the 1800s. It was mainly a place where Native American children could come for a free education. Even today, the town has a very positive relationship with the local Kaw (Kansai) tribes with yearly festivals and other town activities.
There was a special reason to make this stop as well with KAW being the initials of Kahlan, Avery, and William which their grandfather as used in many activities with them over the years. It was pretty awesome to obtain an NPS stamp with their initials on it.
On the return leg of the 2022 Summer Road-trip Kahlan, Avery, and William had the chance to see this historical site. The building was still closed for renovations so we couldn't go inside, but they got their photo in front of the signs and saw the heart of Council Bluffs.
