Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

I was excited to have a quality visit here on the second to last day of the Summer 2021 road trip. This is one of the 'bigger' visits in Kansas and well worth it. Gorgeous views, historical buildings to tour, and their own heard of Bison (transplanted from the Wind Cave herd) roaming around. I was only able to see a single Bison as a thunderstorm was coming rolling in across the plains and I needed to stay ahead of it or get soaked. Thankfully the Bison appeared to realize that I wanted a good photo and stood up for me just as I was getting safely close enough for a good photo.

Supposedly the grass can grow as high as 8 feet tall, but the best I saw was about knee high. I hope that the next time I'm in the area I can see some of the REALLY tall grass.
