Fossil Butte
National Monument

As I was planning out the 2022 Summer Road-trip with Kahlan, Avery, and William I knew I would have include this stop in southern Wyoming to support William's interest in Paleontology. As an added 'bonus', we had to adjust our original route due to flooding in Yellowstone which pushed us to drive through the heart of Wyoming instead of a more northern route. It was interesting being surround by nothing in the middle of nowhere for about 5 hours of driving from Devil's Tower to Fossil Butte.

We took the time to see the fossil's and do a little learning. Sadly, the fossils at this site are of the less exciting variety (and we later learned that the 'cool' fossils are usually found in Montana).

The most exciting part was actually just outside the park near it's entrance where a local resident has his own shop where he sells actual fossils from the area. He even sells partially uncovered fossils as part of a kit were you can then use the tool(s) in the kit to finish unearthing an actual fossil at your leisure. William picked out a special kit with two fossilized fish layered upon each other as probably the best souvenir of the entire trip.
